Tanzania's diverse habitat supports a varied birdlife - it's bliss for birders!

One of the world’s most prolific bird watching destinations, Tanzania boasts at least 1,038 recorded bird species, the 3rd largest in Africa. Eight of the ten families common in Africa are found in Tanzania. Raptors, plovers, parrots, turacos, bee-eaters, barbets, starlings, weavers, pipits and sunbirds are abundantly represented. Led by a highly experienced guide/naturalist in Tanzanian bird life, our birding safaris visit some of the most attractive wildlife areas in both northern and southern Tanzania including several important bird habitats and ecosystems. In addition to traditional wildlife safari drives on the Northern Safari Circuit, there is a wide range of birds in the Acacia forests and plains of Sinya and the lush Mountain Forests of Arusha National Park. The higher altitude forests of Ngorongoro, and the varied terrain of Tarangire are home to an impressive variety of bird species. The diverse forest and wetlands at Lake Manyara and the vast Serengeti plains are of special interest in our search for varied bird species.
The Southern Safari Circuit is also an excellent birding destination and can easily be achieved in combination with a traditional wildlife safari. More than 400 species of birds have been recorded in the Mikumi National Park where the special light conditions are perfect for bird photography. Selous Game Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a bird lover’s paradise, and Ruaha National Park boasts an impressive checklist of 450 birds.
Our northern and southern bird watching and larger wildlife safaris present a true picture of the rich biodiversity of Tanzania with attention given both to birding and to wildlife observation.

Observing birds and wildlife in their natural surroundings is the main focus of our birding safaris. To provide a complete survey of the larger birding and wildlife areas we travel to multiple locations in northern and southern Tanzania. The duration of each safari depends upon your requests and also based on how long you may wish to spend at a particular site or even which sites you are interested in. We can help you answer those questions.
A birding safari is designed to provide the best opportunities for you to encounter both birds and mammals. We also strive to understand the bigger picture, such as how birds and wildlife integrate into their respective environments. Our evenings are spent in comfortable lodgings, while the daily pace is relaxed with ample opportunity for stops, meals, and photography. Depending on your goals, walks can be part of your day. A rewarding experience for you is our number one priority and our field experience makes it happen.
Bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts of all ages have participated in our birding safaris. For some safaris, you may wish to do some walking. Many of our safaris are designed for typical bird watchers, but we can also combine birding, big game viewing, cultures and photography.
